Our Learning Skills Goal for this week will be improving our Initiative learning skills and work habits.
Please keep track of your progress using your "How is it "Goal"ing?" Graph. I will collect your completed Goal Graphs Friday February 26.
Mathematics: we are beginning beginning our Surface Area and Volume unit. We will describe examples of how volume and capacity are used in real-life. We will find the relationship between the area of the base, the height and the volume of cylinders. We will find the surface area and volume of cylinders.
Wed Feb 17- Find 3 cylindrical objects at home and create a sketch of the object. Measure and label its diameter and height. Calculate the volume of each object.
Literacy: we will be starting our Independent Novel Study. We will have 4 cycles (weeks) to complete the selected reading for each cycle and assignments (Reading Response, Summary and Choice of a Word Activity). Please keep track of your reading response questions in your booklet.
Fri Feb 19th- Have your "just right" novel selected for out Independent Novel Study.
Science: We will begin our Fluids Unit focusing on fluid mechanics and density and buoyancy.
Health: We will be working on our Healthy Living: Keeping Yourself Safe Unit. We will make connections among potentially dangerous situations, violent behaviours, and substance abuse, and relate how these choices and behaviours affect our healthy and well-being. We will create a public service announcement that will analyze the impact of violent behaviours and the role of support services in preventing violence.
Physical Education: Day 1 & 3 we will begin our Comprehension of Fitness Concepts unit. We will apply personal skills and critical and creative thinking skills as we demonstrate an understanding of the importance of being active, including factors that motivate us to be active. We will apply self monitoring skills and critical and creative thinking skills as we assess and monitor our level of health-related fitness and recognize how health-and skill-related components of fitness can be improved using training principles. We will monitor our fitness levels for developing cardio-respiratory fitness.
History: we will continue our Creating Canada History Unit. We will use the historical inquiry process to
investigate perspectives of different groups on some significant events and issues that affected Canada
and Canadians between 1850-1890. Remember to bring your resources for our inquiry research work periods.
